> Singapore Sling
icon Singapore Sling

The Singapore Sling was invented sometime before 1910 at the Raffles Hotel in Singapore in the Long Bar by a bartender by the name of Ngiam Tong Boon. The Raffles Hotel is a Singapore icon. It is to Singapore what the Monteleone Hotel is to New Orleans.
The original recipe uses gin, cherry brandy, Dom Bénédictine and fresh juice from Borneo pineapples.

Ingredients:

  • 8 parts gin
  • 4 parts Heering cherry brandy (or Kirschwasser)
  • 1 part Cointreau
  • 1 part DOM Bénédictine
  • 2 parts grenadine
  • 16 parts fresh pineapple juice
  • 6 parts fresh lemon juice
  • 1 dash Angostura bitters
  • Pineapple and maraschino cherries for garnish

Pour all ingredients into cocktail shaker filled with ice and shake well. Strain into tall glasses. Garnish with pineapple and maraschino cherry.
